Dhanushka,  previously a Banker by profession gave up his hectic  banking career  to fulfill his dream to become a naturalist, he is an expert in birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and is a past member of young zoologist association. He holds a degree in chemistry from the institute of chemistry (ICHEM).

He is also a wild life photographer,  a video editor and a conservation activist .Dhanushka has led many tours and his knowledge of geography and overall experience in wildlife makes him the preferred traveling companion.

Pradeep Ratnasiri
Pradeep Ratnasiri

Pradeep qualified himself at the Colombo Open University in Wildlife Management. Before starting to lead bird tours in 2010 Pradeep joined the Wildlife Department of Sri Lanka as a Park Ranger and worked in the 3 main national parks for 5 years. This experience in the national parks and his passion for wildlife has made him an all-round naturalist that you can count on.  His ability to spot and find the elusive birds and mammals has earned him a big name in the wildlife tourism circle.

Pradeep has done a documentary on Crocodiles with National Geography Chanel and is a member of IUCN-SSC Crocodile Specialist Group.

He is currently reading for his BSc in Natural Science from the Open University of Sri Lanka.

Jayaba Jinasena
Jayaba Jinasena

Jayaba also known as “Jay” is a very talented Naturalist with over 5 years’ experience in the wildlife industry. He is currently an undergraduate student at the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology at University of Kelaniya, studying Palaeo Biodiversity. He has a wealth of experience in handling dangerous animals and has taken part in many projects carried out by the Species Conservation Center of Sri Lanka and Department of Wild Life Conservation (DWC) Sri Lanka. Jay is a well-known musician in the island and also a professional photographer. His friendly disposition and knowledge makes him a sought out travel companion.

Dinal Samarasinghe
Dinal Samarasinghe

Dinal holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Natural Science from the Open University of Sri Lanka and is a member of the IUCN species survival commission Crocodile Specialist group and Amphibian Specialist Group. Dinal has published many articles on conservation and has written a book on the Crocodile human conflict. He has an all-round knowledge on birds, mammals and reptiles and has led many specialized tours. His knowledge and experience makes him a desired travelling companion.

Tharanga Wijewickrema
Tharanga Wijewickrema

Tharanga is a professional field botanist who works with tropical plants which occur in various eco-systems in Sri Lanka. Tharanga obtained his B.Sc. degree in Biological science and M.Sc. degree in Environmental Forestry from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He is currently reading for his M.Phil degree in Plant Science at the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya.

He is a project assistant in the National Red Listing program, and started his professional life in Botany at the National Herbarium in Royal Botanical gardens. He is also a flora consultant for the IUCN Sri Lanka. Tharanga has participated in many research and consultancy projects for Universities and other institutes. His knowledge and friendly disposition makes him a desired travel companion.

Himesh Jayasinghe
Himesh Jayasinghe

Founder and the first president of the Butterfly Conservation Society of Sri Lanka, Himesh was an irrigation engineer by profession and a graduate from the University of Moratuwa. He has been a nature lover since his childhood.

Himesh has engaged in leading researches in the fields of butterflies, birds and fish and has published many research papers in academic journals. He is the author of the book “A Guide to the Common Butterflies of Sri Lanka” and one of the co-authors of the book “A Pocket Guide to the Butterflies of Sri Lanka”. He has an in-depth knowledge on birds, fish, butterflies and plants. His love for plants has taken him a long distance in the field of Sri Lankan flora by finding some new plant species that are new to science (these are described in the “Illustrated Field Guide to the Flowers of Sri Lanka by Dr. J.J Vlas”) and has kept his mark in this field.

He was a member of the butterfly expert group that compiled the book “Red data listing -2012” and a member of the team for preparation of the Butterfly Conservation Action Plan-2013 that was conducted by the Biodiversity Secretariat. Being one of the pioneers in the field of the butterflies, Himesh has been playing a major role in butterfly conservation in Sri Lanka.

Dhanushka Samarasinghe

Dhanushka is the Operations Manager of Adventure Birding and overlooks all the operation activity including the logistics and smooth functioning of the ground arrangements. His many years of experience in the logistics and finance sector make him an all-round Operations Manager. He is also an ardent nature and wildlife lover and gave up his illustrious banking career to be closer to wildlife.

Mukesh Hirdaramani
Mukesh Hirdaramani

Mukesh discovered his passion for wildlife in his early youth and re-connected with it over the years as he led many wildlife tours. His experience in the travel trade and exposure to wildlife tourism drew him out in to guiding and he is an expert on Sri Lanka’s culture and is very passionate and knowledgeable on terrestrial mammals and general wildlife. Mukesh holds a Postgraduate Diploma from the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. He is a life member of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka and also a Wildlife photographer who enjoys sharing his knowledge of Sri Lanka with others.  His friendly disposition makes him a sought out travelling companion.

Mukesh is also the General Manager of Adventure Birding.

Thushara Seneviratne
Thushara Seneviratne

Thushara is a regular Tour Leader for all Bird and Natural History tours and has been working with Perry for over 15 years in the tourism industry. He has a B. Sc Degree in Biological science from the Open University of Sri Lanka and has worked/ assisted renowned academics in their field investigations covering a range of natural history in diverse ecosystems. His knowledge on wildlife, birds and tropical flora earned him a big name from all our clients. He is a professional all round naturalist and passionate about sharing his experience with people who visit Sri Lanka

Upul Wickramasinghe
Upul Wickramasinghe

He is a specialist all-round naturalist on birds, whales and mammals and also an expert on natural history. Upul has had his initial training from the Open University of Sri Lanka, and has worked on numerous scientific field investigations. Upul holds a Certificate in Wild Life Conservation & Management from the Open University of Sri Lanka and a Diploma in Palaeo-biodiversity from the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology – University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka.

He has been involved in many Wildlife projects related to Sambhur, Elephants, Loris, Bird netting & ringing and endemic fish assessments. Upul is also a professional wildlife photographer and a fantastic travelling companion to be on tour with

Saman Kumara Gamage
Saman Kumara Gamage

Saman is a very hard working naturalist and always has a smile on his face, be it rain or shine.

Saman has been working as a Wildlife guide since 1999 at Udawalawe, Yala and Bundala National Parks and has many years of experience on Wildlife tours. This experience in all National Parks and Rainforests has made Saman very good in spotting and finding the difficult and rare species in all terrains.

Saman has actively participated and contributed on many research activities and also assisted BBC for a documentary program on Elephants.

He is an expert on Mammals and Birds, and has been leading many wildlife tours and earned a big name in locating the Leopards in Yala.

Suminda Dodangoda
Suminda Dodangoda

Suminda is a qualified English teacher and an archaeologist. He started his career as an English teacher but after finding his passion for nature and wildlife he switched on to leading tours and enjoys sharing his knowledge on the Sri Lanka’s history, culture and wildlife. He still lectures for the Sri Lanka tourist board and is a qualified National Guide.

Devaka has obtained many qualifications in the wildlife field and also have a Wildlife Conservation Management Certificate from the Open University of Sri Lanka, specialising in the field of birds. Devaka has been involved in many conservation research projects in Sri Lanka and has over 15 years of experience as a wildlife guide.

Indika Jayatissa

Indika is a young and energetic all round naturalist specializing in butterflies. He has participated in many research projects and is a member of the Butterfly Conservation Society in Sri Lanka and the Wildlife Conservation Society of Galle. Indika is a wildlife photographer and administer of the Sri Lankan butterflies page on the Facebook.

Wicky’s passion for wildlife started from his childhood and today with over 20 years experience he is known for his work with Dragonflies, Birding, Butterflies, Big Cats & other Mammals, Primates and Whale watching tours around the world.

His experience in Sales & Marketing in the tourism industry gives him the edge over others when it comes to satisfying guest requirements in a professional manner.

Sunil Gunathilake
Sunil Gunathilake

Sunil has been a Field Research Assistant for over 28 years and oversees a project on Toque Macaques and supervises the research of other field assistants during the off season.

Sunil is a highly qualified specialist in Ornithology and he holds a Bachelor of Science, Specializing in Botany, Zoology, and Geography from the University of Peradeniya, Wild life Conservation and Management course at Makarere University field biology research station at Kibale National park, Uganda and a Diploma in Environmental Journalism conducted by the Asian Journalism forum, Sri Lanka.

Sunil is well versed in the biology of primates and of the dry zone forest with its wildlife. He also does census and ecological studies of the gray langur.

Sunil has worked with many nature film crews such as BBC, Discovery Channel, Natural History New Zealand, Disney Nature (USA), and the local TV stations in Sri Lanka. Sunil is a keen student of Buddhism and the ancient history and archaeology of Sri Lanka. He plays a key role in the production of documentary films about primates, elephants, and other aspects of natural history.

Sunil is also the Co-Chairman of the Association for the Conservation of Primate Diversity.

Sunil has been leading tours for many years and with his vast knowledge of wildlife and natural history you will not be missing out on any detail too small. He is a very knowledgeable person in Adventure Birding’s team and leads our tours for the benefit of our passionate wildlife and natural history enthusiasts.

Niran Coonghe
Niran Coonghe

From his childhood days onwards Niran was passionate about wildlife and learnt a lot from his Father and Grandfather who were also highly commendable wildlife enthusiasts. He has over 20 years in the wildlife tourism trade and has been leading many tours over these years. He is a Sri Lanka Tourist Board licensed lecturer guide. Niran is an expert on birds and has the same level of enthusiasm towards Leopards, Primates and other mammals of Sri Lanka making him an all-round expert. He is also very good with Butterfly’s and Dragonflies. Niran has been mentored by many experts in the wildlife society including Professor Sarath Kotagama and Professor Devaka Weerakoon. You will find his knowledge and pleasant disposition quite welcoming when you tour with him.

Chaminda Muthukuda

Chaminda Muthukuda is an ardent Naturalist who has spent most of his time conserving the environment. His expertise in birding comes with his 15 years of experience as a Naturalist for the Wetland Conservation project of Muturajawela and he has assisted in many research projects around the country. He is a member of the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka and the Young Zoology Association of Sri Lanka. He is also a Wildlife photographer.

Pradeep started off as a park ranger in the Udawalawe National Park and has over 12 years’ experience working in all of Sri Lanka’s national parks. He specializes in bird watching and his practical knowledge about the behavior and life of birds is commendable. He has led many tours and is an all-round wildlife specialist with good knowledge on mammals and butterflies also.

Palitha Kulatunga
Palitha Kulatunga

Palitha Kulatunga comes with an experience of over 25 years in the filed as a Naturalist. He is an expert Botanist and has obtained his Diploma in Botany from the Colombo Open University. His knowledge on Sri Lanka’s Birds and Mammals is excellent. Palitha is very passionate about Sri Lanka’s history and culture and his in-depth knowledge on the subject has made him an sought out all-round Naturalist. Palitha is a licensed National Guide Lecturer.
