This rather large cat can grow up to the size of a dog and is known to stand its ground when confronted. Two white stripes on the inner edge of the eyes and the white patches on the cheeks distinguish these cats’ facial features. It has greyish fur with broken longitudinal stripes running through its sides while the dorsal area shows clear longitudinal stripes. Their habitat is aquatic forest cover in the lowlands and the highlands. Mainly feeds on fish and small animals but due to its size even medium sized animals are potential preys. Large populations of the Fishing Cat are known to be seen in the Talangama wet lands and Kotte marshlands throughout the year.
